Merton’s Lib Dem’s say their hopes of “saving” Wimbledon Park from re-development have been “watered down.”

The group is opposed to the All-England Club’s plans to build a 10 storey stadium and 38 new courts there.

Councillors tabled a motion at a council meeting asking the Labour run authority to block the proposal by enforcing covenants. 

 The Lib Dems say the council voted to “respect” the covenants rather than enforce them, allowing for redevelopment to still go ahead.
