There reports of growing tensions at an exclusive estate in Weybridge which is home to some wealthy Russians.
Of the 400 homes in St George’s Hill, it’s believed that more than a quarter are owned by Russians. The number of guards at the gated entrance to the estate has been upped, according to the Guardian, after the invasion of Ukraine. In 2008, an increasing number of Russians moved into the UK on a “golden visa” scheme if they invested at least £2 million pounds. The scheme was axed on the 17th of February amid concerns about applicants having acquired their wealth illegally. Asked if he recognised reports of growing tension in the area, Tom Catton from the Elmbridge Residents Group said: "Not at all. I haven't heard anything and none of the residents have spoken to me about it. "While there were Russian property owners there, he said he could not say how much of the estate is owned by them. "If you are an oligarch and you are connected to Putin, that is for the government and their people to investigate, and if any of them are in the Surrey Hills," he said.
