The coronavirus pandemic's meant the number of serious court cases waiting more than a year to be dealt with has more than trebled

It's around 9,400 across England and Wales.

The Law Society says victims tend to have to wait 708 days from offence to the conclusion of a court case.

While justice secretary and Esher MP Dominic Raab accepts that delays have a terrible impact on the whole system, he still insists progress is being made.
