The Liberal Democrats have kicked off their local election campaign by putting rising household bills at the top of their agenda.

MP for Kingston and Surbiton Sir Ed Davey has warned increasing costs and taxes will overwhelm "millions of families and pensioners".

He's calling for a cut to VAT, which he claims will keep inflation under control and encourage spending.

The party also wants to see a levy on water companies to fund the clean-up of Britain's rivers.
