Update from Thames Water following burst water main in Kingston Hill

Ten fire engines and 70 firefighters are on scene trying to stem the flow of water.

The rupture, outside The Albert pub, was reported at 8.44am and a number of road closure are in place.

A Thames Water spokesperson said: “We’re aware of a burst pipe on Kingston Hill and our engineers are on site to stop the flow of water. We’re sorry for any disruption this is causing for customers, particularly during the heatwave and we’re doing all we can to get things back to normal as quickly as possible.”

Thames Water also says that because the trunk pipe does not supply properties, residents should not be experiencing water issues. The pipe is 30 inches in diameter and the road will need to be fully closed while repairs are carried out.

LFB Station Commander Sacha Clement said:

“Firefighters worked quickly in hot conditions to divert water away from properties and reduce the damage. The 30 inch main has been shut off and the water is receding. However, surrounding roads will be closed for some time to come."
