South-West London and North Surrey new roundup outside of the official mourning for Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II

The new commissioner of the Metropolitan Police takes up his role today - after Dame Cressida Dick left her post in February.

Sir Mark Rowley is expected to address a number of issues that politicians say are needed to "restore trust" in the force.

The Met's been under intense scrutiny following the murder of Sarah Everard from Clapham by a serving officer.

Fourteen campaign groups have written a letter to the new Metropolitan Police commissioner, demanding an end to the use of facial recognition technology.

Organisations like Big Brother Watch and Black Lives Matter UK say the software is "inaccurate" and leads to mis-identifications.

They also claim it's being used in areas with a higher number of people from ethnic minority backgrounds.

Streatham MP Bell Ribeiro-Addy has called for the suspension of the officer who shot Chris Kaba in Streatham Hill.

She says it is “incomprehensible” that he’s still on duty.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct is investigating the case.

A football coach who sexually assaulted young boys in Lambeth and Putney has been jailed.

35-year-old Emmanuel Igwebuike, of no fixed address, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Igwebuike was acting in a self-appointed role as a coach at his own “Jesus Mary Football Academy” based in Stockwell and Putney, and was not affiliated with the FA.

Detective Constable Elaine Hutton says they’re keen to establish if there are other victims who have yet to come forward.

Croydon Councillor Badsha Quadir has died.

Mayor Jason Perry says it’s a “terrible loss”.

Badsha was a successful local businessman who lived with his wife and three children in Purley for over 34 years.

He was first elected to serve Purley ward in 2010.

He was re-elected by the community in 2014 and 2018 before being voted to represent Selsdon Vale and Forestdale in May this year.

Surrey Warriors Strikers have won the Surrey Cricket League.

Their final game against rivals Surrey Warriors Spartans was abandoned due to rain, however.
