A man in his 70s has been attacked in Worcester Park after he confronted three men believed to be vehicle tampering.

The serious assault happened in Elmstead Gardens at around 8.30 last night and left the victim with a bleed on the brain.

The suspects, who are described as three men wearing balaclavas, ran off in the direction of Inveresk Gardens.

Officers are asking residents with CCTV images or information to come forward. 

Borough Commander for Epsom and Ewell, Jon Vale said: “We know that this incident will be concerning for local residents, and we are doing all we can to catch those responsible. We responded immediately and the investigation into the incident continues at full pace today with officers carrying out detailed enquiries.

“Catalytic converter thieves are often prepared to use violence and intimidation to deter members of the public from challenging them. We encourage anyone who thinks they are witnessing a theft in action to stay back in a safe place and call us immediately on 999.”
