Hounslow Council has been recognised for its work in disrupting criminal puppy smuggling gangs.

The authority’s Animal Welfare Officer, Andy Newnham, has won the 2022 RSPCA Pawprints Special Recognition Award.

There was an 11% increase in commercially imported dogs between 2020 and 2021 according to the charity.

The Pawprint Awards also recognise councils’ work with stray dogs, and the care given to the animals of hospitalised residents.
