Nearly one in seven early deaths in Hammersmith and Fulham are attributed to nitrogen oxide air pollution.

That’s the eighth highest level in London according to King’s College London figures.

As a result of the news, the council has unveiled plans to create a borough of Clean Air Neighbourhoods.

A range of measures including tree planting, sustainable drainage schemes and extra school streets have been announced.

Long term exposure to man-made air pollution in the UK is estimated to cause 28,000-36,000 deaths every year.

The council says that is equivalent to around 87 deaths in the borough.
