The number of animals rehomed by the RSPCA in Surrey slipped 36% in the year from 2020 to 2021

The charity has launched its annual Adoptober campaign to encourage people to adopt an animal rather than buy one.

The number of dogs rehomed fell 28% across that period while cat rehoming more than halved from 530 to 244.

Horses are the only animal to buck the trend in Surrey with 70 rehomed in 2021: that’s 84% more than in 2020.
