Wandsworth council is to become the first authority in the country to trial fining speeding drivers instead of the police.

Once in force, motorists will be penalised if they exceed the 20mph limit on two busy roads: Wimbledon Park Road and Priory Lane.

Both are the subjects of numerous complaints from residents about excessive vehicle speeds.

The Wandsworth pilot is designed to support and not replace Met Police enforcement of excessive traffic speeds.
