Surrey Police says it has referred itself to the IOPC following the deaths of a family at Epsom College on Sunday.
College head, Emma Pattison, her husband George and 7 year old daughter Lettie were found dead in an incident being treated as homicide.
Officers earlier confirmed that a firearm found at the scene was licensed and registered to George Pattison.
Police say they had had contact with George on Thursday, the 2nd of February.
He notified officers of a previous change of address, as is routine.
Surrey says due to the short period of time between that contact and this incident, they’ve made a referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
They say they will await the outcome of the body’s assessment of what further action may be required.
Officers also say reports that their investigation is focusing on a firing range based at the college are not incorrect.
They are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
