GSK’s move is the largest since the Brentford based company demerged its consumer health business.
The purchase means the acquisition of Camlipixant, a drug for chronic coughs.
Meanwhile hundreds of staff at the company are due to take strike action in a dispute over pay.
Unite the Union says its members will walk out on various days in May at six sites across England and Wales.
