The government is considering banning plastic in wet wipes as part of plans to clean-up our waterways

Its Plan for Water, which will be set out by the Environment Secretary today, also contains proposals to ban toxic ‘forever chemicals’ from fire fighting foam.

It would also include money for farmers to reduce slurry pollution and to fund on-farm reservoirs.

It’s the third time in five years that the ban has been proposed.

Putney Labour MP Fleur Anderson has called government action “slow”, and has been bringing her own legislation on wet wipes to parliament.
