Emergency vehicles are now allowed to drive in London’s bus lanes even when they aren’t responding to a call out.

The move follows a successful trial between Transport for London and Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals.

Missed appointments fell by 20% during the trial and there was no negative impact on bus journey times.

150 patient transport vehicles were given access to lanes in Lambeth, Wandsworth, Southwark  and Lewisham during the trial.
