Royal Mail was £1bn in the red across 12 months – thanks, in part, to strike action and because planned productivity improvements never happened

It puts annual operating losses for parent company IDS at £748m. 

Year-long walkouts, particularly over Christmas, apparently cost £200m alone. 

The Wimbledon-based Communication Workers Union says the issue “is one of its own making due to gross mismanagement”.
