Footballer Marcus Rashford is promising to keep campaigning to extend free school meals in England over the holidays, after MPs voted against it
The Manchester United player says a "significant number" of children go to bed hungry, and that people need to "unite" to protect the most vulnerable. The government insists support is in place, and will continue, for children on low incomes. When an MP can't vote because they're away on business, it's common practice for a rival to not vote either so the effect is cancelled out. Ed Davey and Sarah Olney, Lib Dem representatives for Kingston and Richmond Park, were absent for this reason.
