We’re being asked to “save Harry.”
The hedgehog awareness campaign has been launched by Leatherhead based charity Wildlife Aid Foundation. Any hogs weighing below 600gms will be unlikely to have enough fat reserves to see them through the winter sleep. The initiative is asking people to look out for underweight hedgehogs, monitor them, and take them to the charity’s hospital if they need help To survive hibernation, a hedgehog should be at least the size of a grapefruit. Wildlife Aid Foundation runs an annual hedgehog hotel in which it looks after over 200 juvenile hoglets that are too small to survive. It costs the organisation £10,000 to look after 100 hedgehogs until the spring.
