Heathrow expansion CAN go ahead
That’s what the Supreme Court has ruled, after the airport brought the case higher when it was turned down by the court of appeal. In February, it was judged on environmental grounds that it couldn’t go ahead. Pro-expansion campaign group Back Heathrow says it’s “an important moment for local communities, desperate for jobs and apprenticeships at a very hard time for our economy”. Critics say it would mean increased noise and pollution. Representatives of the airport have previously said that it wouldn’t be completed until 2030 at the earliest. The airport can now seek a development consent order, which is a type of planning permission for infrastructure.
