It's after a number of people in the Kingston area
claim they've been contacted by someone purporting to be from the telecoms
company.
The person warns that the phone line and internet
will be cut off, but some people who have received the calls aren't even BT
customers.
BT says you should report any suspicious activity on
their website and also contact national advice centre Action Fraud.
A BT Spokesperson told Jackie News:
“We take our customers’ security very seriously and proactively
warn them to be on their guard against scams.
“All our customer service advisors are trained o give them
help and advice if customers receive scam calls and we have a specialist team
to support customers who are victims of scams.
“We’ll never call or email a customer to ask for remote
access to their computer or ask for personal information (including bank
details) unexpectedly and we’ll never call from an ‘unknown’ number.
“If a customer is suspicious, or uncomfortable about what’s
being asked, we always recommend that they hang up the phone, and report the
call to our BT Call Protect service.
“Our advice is that customers should never share their BT
account number with anyone and to always be wary of calls or emails that are
not expected.”
