The Police and Crime Commissioner for Surrey says he’s “disappointed” the county hasn’t received money to tackle serious violence
Only 18 out of 40 police forces received the funding, including all of Surrey’s neighbours. The PCC is currently consulting on raising taxes by the maximum amount to provide for the police force. Policing Minister Kit Malthouse said: “We are making our communities safer by recruiting 20,000 extra police officers and Surrey Police will receive up to £262.1million funding in 2021/22 – an increase of up to £12.7million on the previous year. “The Serious Violence Fund is part of a targeted approach aimed at addressing the drivers of serious violence at a local level in areas and communities identified as the most affected by serious violence. It is only one strand of our multi-faceted national programme, which also includes the surrender scheme to take dangerous weapons off the streets, the planned introduction of new Serious Violence Reduction Orders and the 10-year Youth Endowment Fund which delivers programmes to protect young people from involvement in violence.”
