There are calls for a pedestrian crossing on the northern end of Battersea bridge, after a man died there last week
Chelsea and Fulham MP Greg Hands is writing to the Commissioner of TfL saying it’s been an “area of concern” for over a decade.
He adds that the operator said a “green man” crossing would be installed in 2005, but this hasn’t happened.
TfL says it’s complex, as it’s a “busy river crossing, a key bus corridor and has high numbers of people walking and cycling”.
It adds that “action is urgently needed” and they are “keen to work with the borough”.
Lilli Matson, TfL’s Chief Safety, Health and Environment Officer, says “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Jack Ryan, who was tragically killed on Battersea Bridge.
“We are supporting the Metropolitan Police as they continue their investigation.
“Every death on London’s streets is one too many and we are committed to making London safer for everyone through our Vision Zero ambition to eliminate deaths and serious injuries on London’s roads.
“The junction of Battersea Bridge and Chelsea Embankment / Cheyne Walk is complex as it is busy river crossing, a key bus corridor and has high numbers of people walking and cycling.
“Action is urgently needed and we are keen to work with the borough to deliver improvements that will protect the safety of all road users as soon as possible.”
