Kingston Council says there is no evidence to suggest any child has come to harm at the Malden Centre in New Malden

It’s after Surbiton Green Councillor Sharron Sumner claimed she discovered the allegations after seeing an Ombudsman’s report.

It was alleged that a New Malden Ward councillor committed verbal racial and physical abuse against a child in 2019. 

But the Council says “appropriate child protection procedures have been followed” and no evidence found. 

A spokesman for Kingston Council has re-issued the same statement first issued in 2019. 

"Appropriate child protection procedures have been followed and subsequent to investigations undertaken by the local authority. We can confirm that there is no evidence that any child has been subject to serious or significant harm at the centre, neither has there been any incident involving any child which requires the council to take action in accordance with its statutory safeguarding responsibilities."
