Surrey has the lowest rate of imprisoning women in the country
The rate is 9 per 100,000, compared to the highest, South Wales where it is at 62. The Police there are attributing it to two schemes. The first is their Women’s Justice Intervention Scheme, which works with offenders outside the court system. The second defers prosecution for lower level offences, aiming to reduce reoffending with targeted interventions. Police and Crime Commissioner David Munro says he’s “delighted to see that all the hard work” is “really paying dividends”.
