The fight is on to save Wimbledon Village Farmers’ Market
Merton Council was forced to shut it down unexpectedly last weekend after it received a threat of legal action. Adrian Mills of the Wimbledon Village Business Association says it’s been a lifeline for some residents:
We’ve contacted Merton Council for comment. Wimbledon MP Stephen Hammond says he is working to sort the problem and has “no doubt" it will be trading again soon. "The Farmer’s Market is overwhelmingly popular in Wimbledon. I had hoped a sensible approach could be found to any issues a small group have. Unfortunately, a threat of legal action has undertaken which would not only threaten this popular local market but could threaten markets all over London. Along with local councillors I am working to sort out the problem I have no doubt the market will be trading again soon."
