The government is to fund proper fire alarms in up to 460 buildings nationwide
Currently, some blocks have people patrolling as a “waking watch”, at the cost of the building owner. £16.1m is to be spent in Greater London to replace them. In October, the government found 11-20 high rises in Wandsworth are unlikely to meet building regulations due to cladding. Salvi Vittozzi from Advanced Apollo Fire Systems says many buildings are built for the “stay put policy”. He says this will be the safest for those, but buildings should be constantly reassessed.
