A health minister says a 1% pay rise for NHS staff is all the government can afford as they focus on protecting jobs
Nadine Dorries says "in an ideal world" nurses would be paid more - after the increase was called pitiful and "a slap in the face". Dame Donna Kinnair, general secretary of the Royal College of Nursing, says an increase for nurses of around £3.50 a week is "woefully inadequate". Streatham Labour MP Bell Ribeiro-Addy says “It shows how little this Government has changed & how little it values NHS staff’s huge contribution.” Tooting Labour MP Dr Rosena Allin-Khan, who does shifts at St George’s Hospital, criticised the government’s £37bn spend on Test and Trace contracts.
