Air Passenger Duty on domestic flights could be cut under plans to improve connectivity within UK
A consultation's being launched this spring on the duty on services between UK airports. But critics of the proposal say reducing the tax 'flies in the face' of the government's climate commitments. Transport secretary, Grant Shapps, insists there are more effective ways to get the aviation industry to zero carbon. However, the government has been criticised for lowering that tax, while raising rail fares. Richmond Park LIb Dem MP Sarah Olney says it means "Britain will be laughed at on the world stage".
