A No Confidence Motion in the leader of Spelthorne Council is going ahead tonight
Luke Williams reports:
Jan Doefel, the leader of the borough’s Green Party, is
hoping to replace the conservative John Boughtflower.
Doefel says that the 53 hectares of Green Belt land due to
be released in the local plan is too much.
He also says the housing plan has failed to take into account
changes due to COVID-19, such as a drop of commuters into London.
He says the current housing target of 603 per year is
“overproviding housing that no one wants”, and he wants to focus on the “local
need”.
The motion is being co-signed by the United Spelthorne
group, including former leader Ian Harvey.
He says that he has identified character traits in
Councillor Doefel that he believes are “crucial for a leader to exhibit”.
We’ve contacted current leader John Boughtflower for
comment.
