Hear from former Chancellor and Kingston MP Lord Norman Lamont ahead of the budget today
Rishi Sunak's due to extend the furlough scheme to September in today's budget - a move the opposition says should have been made months ago. We already know there'll be schemes to help first-time buyers, the arts and sports, plus extra funding for the vaccine programme. Commons speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle's not happy that so much of it has been pre-announced. Labour says the Chancellor's more focused on getting his "moment in the sun" than protecting jobs and livelihoods. But former Conservative Chancellor Lord Norman Lamont, who represented the now-abolished Kingston-upon-thames constituency from 1972 to 1997, says it's difficult to assess when to end something so unprecedented.
