Richmond Park’s MP says plans to charge visitors need to be urgently clarified
Royal Parks announced this morning that it is planning to introduce charges of £2.00 an hour at weekends and £1.40 on weekdays. Sarah Olney says she welcomes the management group’s plans to use the money on improving infrastructure. But she says she also recognises that the vast majority of survey respondents objected to the idea. Ms Olney has released this statement: “I recognise fully the concerns some local residents will have about this announcement and will therefore be speaking with Royal Parks to seek urgent clarification on what kind of impact it will have. Many will be rightly anxious that there’ll be a significant increase in parking outside their homes, someone which is practically and environmentally troublesome. “While I welcome Royal Parks’ assertion that the revenue raised will go into improving infrastructure and other projects that aim to help visitors access the park without needing a car, I similarly note that the vast majority of survey respondents objected to the idea. It is imperative, therefore, that the impact this will have on my constituents is addressed and mitigated against in a transparent and satisfactory way.”
