Over 100 MPs and Lords are calling for the UK to retaliate against sanctions by China

It’s after nine UK citizens, including five MPs, were sanctioned for allegedly spreading “lies and disinformation”.

The group are calling for some Chinese officials to have travel bans and asset freezes, over anti-democracy action in Hong Kong and alleged human rights abuses against Uyghur Muslims.

Lord Patten of Barnes is writing to the Prime Minster, saying “it is clear the so-called golden era of relations between the UK and China is now over”.

Mitcham and Morden MP Siobhan McDonagh is among the signatories.
