There’s a dire warning from the British Heart Foundation today.

The charity says the number of people waiting more than four months for heart procedures and operations in the South East has increased.

The percentage is now 25% higher than before the pandemic.

More than 6,620 people in the region, including almost 900 in Surrey, were waiting 18 weeks or more for heart-related treatments in February this year.

That’s compared to 5,300 people in February last year.

The BHF says the devastating disruption to heart disease care caused by the pandemic could put lives at risk for years to come.
