Lambeth Council has stopped using a controversial herbicide to get rid of weeds
The authority says it has taken the growing concerns about the health and environmental impacts of Glyphosate seriously. Commonly known by its original trade name “Roundup”, it’s said to be the world's most widely used herbicide. Lambeth carried out a scheduled spray of the borough in May, but August’s spray will not go ahead. It has also stopped using the herbicide in the borough’s parks and on housing estates. Year-round chemical-free manual weed control will be introduced in October instead. Around 150 streets have already opted out of scheduled sprays and have been tackling the weed problem themselves.
