A date has been set for the decision on whether a controversial retirement village in Epsom will be green-lit or not.

Two separate applications were submitted for the ex-hospital land, which received hundreds of objections and were turned down.

Guild Living appealed to the government, who have appointed a planning inspector to make the decision on the 17th of August.

The developer says they were “disappointed” by the refusals, and says there’s a “pressing need” for specialist elderly accommodation.

Councillor Monica Coleman says it will be “one of the most significant” planning decisions due to its scale.
