An 85-year-old man in Croydon has lost thousands of pounds to a scam which told him they were trying to protect him.
He received a call from a man who told him that his bank account is at risk of being scammed, and the bank were in on it. He withdrew £2,000 and €6,000, then a man came and collected the money, saying that he’d get it back once it was safe. A third man then called and claimed to be a police officer, and that the victim needed to go to Hammersmith and collect money. If you know someone who is vulnerable or may fall victim to this type of scam, contact Operation Nogi at the Met Police.
