Merton Council have voted to close a nursery in Mitcham, despite opposition from the public and the area’s MP
The plan is to expand Merton Medical Education Services, which helps highly vulnerable students unable to attend mainstream schools. The authority says it has limited resources, so a bigger building needs to be found from existing stock, rather than a new build. A consultation was launched January, and 92% of respondents said that Lavender Nursery shouldn’t be closed to make room for MMES. Merton have proposed alternative sites, but the nursery says they are “inadequate and incomparable to the current provision”.
