A government body has found the UK’s largest housing association did not breach consumer standards over an estate in Mitcham.
Complaints were made against Clarion by residents of Eastfields Estate earlier this year. They claimed their homes had fallen into disrepair with mice infestations and severe damp problems. At the time, Merton Council grilled Clarion, with the housing association later issuing an apology. But the Government’s Regulator of Social Housing has now issued a statement. It says “whilst there were clearly individual repairs issues which required resolution, our investigation did not find evidence of systemic or organisational failure which indicates a breach of the consumer standards.” It does however, go on to say that complaints about specific problems or disputes tenants have with their landlords usually fall within the remit of the Housing Ombudsman.
