The Prime Minister has been accused of using Afghanistan as a way of getting out of a controversial vote on Heathrow expansion.

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer told the Commons that Boris Johnson failed to visit Afghanistan as Prime Minister.

As Foreign Secretary,  Mr Johnson famously said he would lie down in front of the bulldozers to stop expansion going ahead at Heathrow.

But he travelled to Kabul for talks with senior Afghan government officials in order to avoid having to vote against the government.
