There’s a warning that unaccompanied children arriving in Croydon to seek asylum could be put at risk by a funding gap

Croydon Council wants more than two million pounds extra from minsters in Whitehall to cover what it says are exceptional costs.

Since 2015 the borough has helped 5000 vulnerable children who have to travel there to register their asylum claims with the Home Office Unit in the Town centre.

On Monday Croydon’s cabinet will discuss a range of emergency measures, which could include cutting the number of children they have to offer assistance.
