81% of food and drink business owners say they feel unprepared for the introduction of “Natasha’s Law” next month.
It’s named after Natasha Ednan-Laperouse, the schoolgirl from Fulham, who died after suffering an allergic reaction to a baguette. The 15 year old had bought the Pret a Manger sandwich before boarding a flight at Heathrow in 2016. It did not have any allergen advice on its wrapper because, as it was made on the premises, it was not required by law. Natasha was severely allergic to sesame and became unwell on the flight before passing away at a hospital in France. Natasha's law will require all food businesses to include full ingredients labelling on pre-packaged food from October the 1st. The research, commissioned by GS1 UK, has also revealed Only 39%of employers are training staff on types of allergens.
