A Lib Dem councillor in Kingston has resigned over the controversial Kingfisher Leisure Centre redevelopment.

Jon Tolley, who also runs Banquet Records, says he intends to sit as an independent Liberal Democrat.

In a resignation letter to the council’s leader, Caroline Kerr which he released on Twitter (above), he said he believed the plans for the Kingfisher are “not deliverable and dishonest.”

Mr Tolley, who represents the ward where the leisure centre sits, says the original plan, to fix the roof, meant it would have been open by now.

Kingston Council is yet to comment.
