A man has been named Police Officer of the year at the Metropolitan Police’s Excellence Awards after an incident in Kingston.

On the 3rd July last year, PC Andy Cougar attended an emergency call where an adult son was threatening at his elderly mother.

The agitated man had locked them both inside their home and, armed with knives, he self-harmed himself.

After PC Cougar broke through a window, he was approached by the suspect with blades but quickly stopped him by deployment of a taser.
