A road sweeper driver has been jailed and a company fined £750,000, after a man died in Egham three years ago
36-year-old Cosmin Stanciu was operating the vehicle at night as part of roadworks, when he stopped to speak to nearby workers. He was concerned they were too close to him, so he manoeuvred, but collided with 40-year-old Daniel Gooch, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The Health and Safety Executive found there were “multiple health and safety failings” by contractor Toppesfield. Investigating Officer Stuart Bonner says “the road resurfacing industry needs to learn” and “every road user has a responsibility to those around them”.
