Kingston Council says new “social spaces” are not negatively impacting on disabled visitors to the town centre
Extra seating and large floral planters have been set up in Thames Street, Lower Fife Road and outside Kingston station. But some visitors have taken issue with the set-up in Thames Street, as disabled parking bays appear to have been built on. The council says Blue Badge holders will still be able to access the existing 4 parking bays in nearby Bishops Hall instead. The authority has also converted two pay and display parking bays in Fife Road to blue badge parking. This “social spaces” scheme is “an experiment” that could be in place for up to 18 months.
