A petition against the redevelopment of the Kingfisher Leisure Centre in Kingston has been dismissed

It was closed in 2019 after issues with the roof were found, and now a new one is being planned at the cost of £40m.

The council says the new site would be an investment for the borough’s future, and could avoid further repair costs for the 40-year-old building.

Caroline Shah, who presented the petition, says it’s too expensive to build a new leisure centre, and it’ll need tower blocks to pay for it.
