Energy firms have reportedly been told it's going to be a mild winter, as the business secretary tries to reassure them about supply in the coming months

The Financial Times claims Spelthorne MP Kwasi Kwarteng joined a Met Office briefing where he was told it's likely to be wet and not as cold as previous years.

12 suppliers have already collapsed because of soaring global gas prices since September.

Shadow energy Secretary Ed Miliband has accused Mr Kwarteng of “crossing his fingers”, although the government says they have plans for all eventualities.
