The sporting body was concerned that the site’s indefinite closure would mean a lack of swimming opportunities in the borough.
But Kingston Council’s leader Caroline Kerr has told Radio Jackie’s Lucy Mayer that objections from Sport England won’t halt the redevelopment.
A spokesperson for Sport England says;
“Sport England’s role as a non-statutory consultee for planning issues is to protect community access to sport and leisure facilities, so an objection was made to the demolition of Kingfisher leisure centre.
However, this has been overruled and the council has approved plans to demolish.”
