A muslim man claims he was detained at Heathrow for four and a half hours, despite being told he was “not under suspicion”.
Dr Asim Qureshi is the head of CAGE, which seeks to help those affected by counter-terrorism practices. He claims that police went through his belongings, including taking specific interests in the tabs he had in a book about cricket and race. He says he’s considering a formal complaint. The Met Police say they have the power to stop, question, search and detain people, and won’t provide details on specific cases. Police officers at ports of entry have the power to stop, question, search and if necessary detain people entering or leaving the UK.
