The cafe, called The Latch, is the result of a collaboration between the council and the Friends of Latchmere Rec, who wanted the site to be used by the local community.
The Mayor of Kingston also planted a tree with a 1902 spade, which was had been used to celebrate the coronation of King Edward 7th and Queen Alexandra.
